In times gone by it was common to have containers by the front door planted with Common Box as it was believed that buxus sempervirens would deter witches from entering a house by occupying them with the counting of its millions of tiny leaves. Planted around a flower bed it would also stop the witches from stealing plants which they used to make their ‘witches brew’s.
Garden care: Hardy and slow growing, buxus sempervirens requires very little maintenance and is tolerant of both sun and shade. It will grow approximately 4- 6inches per year and can be clipped into shape during the growing months of June to the end of August.
